Moms Talk: Public Pays Close Attention to Beyonce and Baby Blue
Celebrities have their every move picked apart. But what happens when their actions affect others? Patch columnist Nia Stanley looks at both sides.

Who's younger than 2 months, under 10 pounds, has been featured on a hit song, and already has a better life than most of us?
Blue Ivy Carter.
The first child of power couple was welcomed into the world by hysterical fans and irate parents of children born at the same time and in the same hospital.

The Internet went crazy with rumors that the couple prevented other families from visiting with their loved ones because of a super tight security detail; that Jay Z paid to have the Empire State Building lit up with blue lights in honor of Blue Ivy Carter's birth; and that the couple rented an entire floor of Lenox Hill Hospital to protect their privacy. (Which made me wonder why people were even on the floor to be thrown off in the first place if they rented the whole thing, but whatever.)
The baby's father has already released a single dedicated to the tiny tot called "Glory," which features her cries at the end. "Saturday Night Live" even did a sketch about the new edition.

As always, I am able to see both sides of the story. I am not saying Beyonce deserves the kind of preferential treatment that would lead her to prevent other families from seeing their babies, but they do need protection.
Paparazzi will go to extreme lengths to get that coveted first shot. Wealthy families do have to be concerned about kidnapping attempts. And I’m sure the couple wants to protect photos from being leaked to protect privacy if there’s a chance they can sell them, if they plan to release them at all. They eventually did release the photos on the Internet but were not paid for them.
My Facebook and Twitter friends have had lots to say on the subject, from “Who cares. This is not the first baby to ever have been born,” to “We want to see more pictures!” and a little bit of everything in-between.
I’m in the middle: I was mildly curious about what she looked like, but that’s about it.
Now she is safely tucked away at home and travels in a bullet-proof van that reportedly costs $1 million and includes amenities such as a full bathroom with shower, DirecTV and WiFi.
Most recently, Beyonce made news for nursing her baby in public. She was out to lunch and nursed the baby at the table, instead of going into the bathroom or stepping out into said luxury van.
Her move shed light on the practice of public nursing, in which public opinion is divided.
Celebrities have their every move picked apart! Do you think it’s fair for celebrities to be made into unwilling poster children for issues such as public nursing, or should they be left alone?
