Portion Of Thompson Run Road Closed

Find out here how long the closure will be in effect.

ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - Thompson Run Road will close to all traffic Monday afternoon between Radcliff Drive and Evergreen Road, the Allegheny County Department of Public Works announced. The road will be closed for at least a week and a half so workers can replace a damaged portion of stone abutment on a bridge with reinforced concrete and to implement a stream diversion.

The southbound lane on that section of the road has been closed since June 7, when a consultant discovered during a routine inspection that a part of the bridge’s abutment had washed away during spring storms, making that lane of the bridge potentially structurally deficient.

Traffic from both directions was initially allowed where the road became a single lane and was controlled by stops signs. On July 9, that section of the road was closed to southbound traffic to create a work zone for the emergency repairs.

Since then, there has been an issue with southbound drivers ignoring the closure and continuing to use the open northbound lane. Public Works is closing both lanes to ensure the safety of drivers and work crews.

Traffic will be detoured using Siebert Road, McKnight Road, and Babcock Boulevard.
