1. Hal’s Bar and Grill, 3225 Babcock Boulevard, Ross
What makes this place so special? According to one Yelp reviewer, “This is the best bar food I’ve ever had...this is a great bar with a great atmosphere.” Opined another: “Excellent service, very good wings, very good beer selection, bottle shop next door to the bar, good specials for food, very clean and modern appearance to the interior.”
2. Flip Flops Bar 342 Center Ave., West View
Said one Yelp reviewer: “Friendly and quick service. Lots of different drink deals and specials for every day of the week. Lots of seating- booths, tables and high tops. This would be a great place to hang out with friends or family- they have a pool table and three electronic dart boards.”
3. The Grotto Bar and Grille, 403 Perry Highway, West View
“It has that home town feel with great music and great service,” wrote one Yelp user. Added another:”Great experience, friendly staff, great prices. Get delicious grub at affordable prices.
We are repeat customers.”
4. Wheelfish, 635 Sangree Road, Ross .
OK, we admit a strong desire to try this place. Our stomachs were rumbling with desire after reading this review: “ Food is reasonably priced, fresh, delicious and smoky perfection. Our waitress was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. We had the pulled pork nachos... All people should try these nachos, they are amazing! The pulled pork is one of the BEST we've ever had, they make their own queso AND chips!”
5. Rum Runners Saloon, 3385 Babcock Boulevard, Ross
Praise for the staff from this Yelp reviewer: A few of the waitresses have gone above and beyond constantly interacting with our group. Those are the nights that Rum Runners really shines. As a local watering hole, this is always a viable option in my book!”
6. Wiegand’s Cafe, 656 Center Ave., West View
“A small, smoky bar, with reasonably priced drinks,” wrote one Yelp user. “You'll get your drink with a smile and if there is a Pittsburgh game on, it will be on one of many TV's.” Sounds like a quintessentially yinzer place.
7. Shenanigan’s Bar and Grille, 2310 Babcock Boulevard, Ross
“Wings are great!” wrote one enthused wings consumer. “There are over 50 different flavors to chose from and the wings themselves were very crispy and juicy. I went with the Garlic Thai and the Yukon Gold...met the owner and he was really nice.”
8. Stoke’s Grill, 4771 McKnight Road, Ross
This Yelp user likes the food here: “I loved the buffalo chicken dip and crab bisque. Others at my table really enjoyed the buffalo mac and cheese. The beer selection was impressive, something worthy of taking to trip here for. With all of the bland chain restaurants along McKnight, this place was a wonderful break from the norm! Definitely will be back.”
9. Highland Bar, 517 Perry Highway, West View
This apparently would be a great bar to visit on throwback Thursdays. It's one of those old u-shaped bars with red-tufted vinyl stools and a pretty ‘old school’ vibe,” one Yelp reviewer wrote. “There's absolutely nothing upscale or remotely urbane about this place, so go looking forward to some more casual fun and you'll have a blast.”
10. Drinks, 348 Center Ave., West View
“I got a screwdriver which was deliciously made,” one Yelp user wrote. “There was one bartender and she took care of the bar attendees well on her own.” Works for us.
