ROSS TOWNSHIP, PA - Thompson Run Road, which had been closed between Radcliff Drive and Evergreen Road, has reopened to traffic about a week ahead of schedule. Allegheny County's Department of Public Works successfully replaced a damaged portion of stone abutment on a Thompson Run Road bridge and also implemented a stream diversion.

The southbound lane on that section of the road was closed June 7 when a consultant discovered during a routine inspection that a part of the bridge’s abutment had washed away during spring storms, making that lane of the bridge potentially structurally deficient. Traffic from both directions was initially allowed where the road became a single lane.

On July 9, that section of the road was closed to southbound traffic to create a work zone for the emergency repairs. However, there was an issue with southbound drivers ignoring the closure and continuing to use the open northbound lane, so both lanes of the road on the bridge were closed on July 15.
