KeyBank Employees Volunteer Across Carbon, Montgomery Counties
Employees supported the mission of various local nonprofits, part of Key's 27th annual "Neighbors Make the Difference Day"
On May 24, KeyBank employees rolled up their sleeves and participated in Key’s 27th annual Neighbors Make the Difference Day, spending the afternoon volunteering at nonprofits in both Montgomery and Carbon Counties. The No. 9 Mine & Museum and Lehigh Valley Zoo both benefited from the extra sets of hands that helped them with their day-to-day tasks.
No. 9 Mine & Museum: Key employees helped the No. 9 Mine & Museum get ready for its annual Memorial Day picnic. This included general landscaping and cleaning of the picnic area that would soon be frequented by many visitors from across Carbon County. The No. 9 Mine is a real coal mine that dates back to 1858, giving visitors the opportunity to “peek back into history” to explore an underground mule way and miners hospital.

Lehigh Valley Zoo: KeyBank employees volunteered at the Lehigh Valley Zoo, where they spent time helping children use their crafting skills to make “penguin bracelets.” A portion of all proceeds from the bracelets benefited SANCCOB, a South African organization dedicated to the conservation and protection of African Penguins.

During KeyBank’s Neighbors Make the Difference Day on May 24, approximately 200 employees volunteered at 26 community organizations across Eastern Pennsylvania. These employees joined nearly 7,000 Key employees across 15 states from Maine to Alaska to provide 28,000 volunteer hours to 900 service projects in the communities the bank serves. Neighbors Make the Difference Day was started more than 25 years ago by a group of employees in Alaska. Two years later, the idea swept across a number of communities that KeyBank serves and became an official day of employee volunteerism, now the hallmark of the bank’s commitment to its neighborhoods.
