What's a Recreational Fire in North Whitehall?

Backyard fire pits and other recreational fires are causing alarm among some North Whitehall Township residents.

Neffs Fire Co. Chief Jim Stewart told the North Whitehall Supervisors he's getting complaints from residents who are concerned their neighbors' recreational fires are either too close to their properties or too large, according to The Morning Call.

Stewart said the township's open burning ordinance needs to be updated to define recreational fires, when they can burn and how far away from property lines they can be.
