Township bids farewell to first township manager Bob Anckaitis

Palmer Township Manager Bob Anckaitis is packing up his things and heading to South Carolina.

After 11 years as the first township manager, he'll be retiring and first up is vacationing in Myrtle Beach.

At last night's township supervisors meeting, newcomer Christopher Christman was handed over the "proverbial keys" when the board appointed him secretary/treasurer and public records officer. He also is replacing Anckaitis as manager.

Christman comes from Hilltown Township, Bucks County, where he worked as township manager. He's been on the job in Palmer since May 16.

Drive by the township's electronic sign and you'll find a welcoming greeting for Christman and a final farewell to Anckaitis. Anckaitis said he's overwhelmed by all the warm wishes on his retirement but at the same time is excited about his retirement.

"Call me in six months and ask me how's retirement going," said Anckaitis. "I'll tell you I'm LOVING it!"
