Borough Working for September End Date to Route 23 Project
The bridge replacement project has created traffic woes for thousands of commuters since April.

For the thousands of motorists crawling their way to work and back each day around Phoenixville, it seems like the traffic woes surrounding the Route 23 bridge replacement project will never end. Members of the borough council sympathize with the aggravation and are working with PennDOT to reopen the busy roadway by September, according to the Pottstown Mercury.
The report says that Borough Manager Jean Krack and Mayor Michael Speck have regularly met with PennDOT officials to find ways to reduce the project end date from its predicted November deadline.
PennDOT’s contractor is rehabilitating the structurally deficient bridge by removing the deteriorated steel I-beams and replacing them with concrete beams; building a new deck; and repairing the support abutments. In addition, crews will replace the pier caps on which the beams sit.
