Chester County Man Is Team USA's Oldest Olympian

Age is just one more hurdle which equestrian Phillip Dunton surmounts.

The Chester County man and Australia native is, at 52, the oldest member of Team USA.

As an equestrian, Dunton's specialty is eventing, which is a combination of events participated in by a horse and rider. The three events that comprise eventing are dressage, cross country, and show jumping.

Dutton is a six-time Olympian, according to his Team USA athlete profile, having been selected for teams at the games in Rio in 2016, London in 2012, Beijing in 2008, Athens in 2004, Sydney in 2000, and Atlanta in 1996.

Dutton competed in the 1996 through 2004 games as an Australian. He won gold in 1996 and 2000 in team eventing for Australia.

Although he had lived in America since 1991, he did not become a U.S. citizen until 2006. He settled in Avondale, and he trains at West Grove's True Prospect Farm, which he and his wife run and own, his website states.

He placed 7th in team eventing for the United States in the 2012 games in London.

In Rio, Dutton will compete with horse Mighty Nice.

Dunton's first competition in Rio will take place on August 6.
