Flash Flood Warning Issued For Southeastern Chesco

PHOENIXVILLE, PA — The National Weather Service at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday issued a Flash Flood Warning across southeastern Chester County in an area from Phoenixville to Coatesville.

In a 7 p.m. update the National Weather Service also issued a forecast of flooding with moderate severity at East Branch Brandywine Creek below Downingtown, affecting Chester County.

The National Weather Service said the river is expected to rise above flood stage just after midnight tonight to a crest of 9.9 feet just after midnight tonight. It will then fall below flood stage late tomorrow morning.

The intersections of Creek Road and Route 926 near Pocopson floods upstream of Chadds Ford are expected to be impacted.

Areas named in the 4:30 p.m. Flash Flood Warning were: West Chester, Norristown, Chester, West Norriton, East Norriton, Westtown, Conshohocken, Swarthmore, Kennett Square, Narberth, and East Lansdowne.

The Warning also included the Pennsylvania Turnpike between mile markers 322 and 331; Interstate 95 between mile markers 0 and 4; and Interstate 76 between mile markers 327 and 338; and Interstate 476 in Pennsylvania between mile markers 1 and 18.

Flooding of small creeks and streams, urban areas, highways, streets, and underpasses as well as other drainage and low-lying areas is possible.

The National Weather Service reminded drivers, "Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads. Most flood deaths occur in vehicles."

Motorists should not attempt to drive around barricades or drive cars through flooded areas, the NWS said.
