Former Ursinus Wrestling Coach Passes Away

William Racich was a longtime fixture on the local sports scene as an athlete, HS and college wrestling coach, and athletic director.

William B. Racich, 65, of Collegeville, PA passed away on September 21, 2018.

He was born in Norristown, PA on July 1, 1953, a son of the late Nicholas and Elizabeth (Ainscoe) Racich.

Bill was raised in Conshohocken, PA and has been a resident of Trappe, PA for 40 years. Bill graduated from Plymouth-Whitemarsh High School and West Chester Univeristy.

He was the Wrestling Coach at Ursinus College since 1980 and never had a losing season. Bill was also the Department Chair of Health and Physical Education for Spring-Ford Area School District, where he also served as an Athletic Director and coached Track and Cross Country. Bill is a member of the Conshohocken Sports Hall of Fame (1986), West Chester Wrestling Hall of Fame, Philadelphia-Whitemarsh Rugby Hall of Fame (1999), Plymouth-Whitemarsh Distinguished Graduates Hall of Fame, Ursinus College Hall of Fame for Athletes (2001), Southeast Pennsylvania Wrestling Hall of Fame (2003), Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2003), and the Division III National Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame (2003).

Bill is survived by his wife, Julia Racich; son, Cole ( & Jenna) Racich; brothers, Robert ( & Patricia) Racich, Nicholas Racich, and David Racich, and sister, Sandra Racich – Lienti. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Briar Racich, as well as nieces and nephews. Along with his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his sister, Nicole Ann Racich.

His Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 10:00 AM in the Fieldhouse at Ursinus College, 601 E. Main St., Collegeville, PA 19426. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken. There will be no visitation prior to the service. Following the interment, a reception will be held in the Fieldhouse.

Those attending the funeral service and burial are asked to park in the West Lot at the college. The entrance to the West Lot is located off 9th Ave., Collegeville.
