Joe Sixpack Praises Phoenixville Scene

Daily News beverage columnist talks up Stable 12, other local establishments ahead of Saturday's Phlight of the Phoenix Bar Tour

The Philadelphia Daily News’ “beer reporter,” known as Joe Sixpack, used his column Thursday to extoll the virtues of Phoenixville’s growing scene of bars, brewpubs and nightlife, praising the “once-stinky Chester County town” for its drink-related renaissance.

“Even city dwellers need to pay attention to what’s happening in Phoenixville,” he wrote.

Ahead of this weekend’s Phlight of the Phoenix Bar Tour, Sixpack (real name Don Russell) visited Stable 12, while also talking up such establishments as Black Walnut Winery, the Barrel Wine Bar, Iron Hill Brewery and Bluebird Distillery.

Among other observations, Sixpack noted that while Center City sports only one brewpub, the much smaller Phoenixville has two, and they’re both on Bridge Street.

The Phlight of the Phoenix Bar Tour runs from noon to 11 on Saturday.
