Dana Melia, communications manager for Exelon's Limerick Generating Station, said an alarm sounded around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

"We had one siren that malfunctioned," she said today. "One of the fuses malfunctioned, so when that happens, the siren alarms."
The alarm system was repaired, tested and returned to service at roughly noon today, Melia said.

Exelon every year mails instructions—to tune into the local radio station for further information when an alarm sounds—to residents within 10 miles of the plant, Melia said.
An alarm is not necessarily "a signal to evacuate," she said.
