Piazza said during the ceremony that his love affair with baseball began in Phoenixville.

PHOENIXVILLE, PENNSYLVANIA — Phoenixville Area High School graduate Mike Piazza was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York Sunday afternoon. Members of the Phoenixville Phantoms coaching staff and current players were on-hand to watch the ceremony, the Mercury reported.
Ken Griffey Jr. of the Seattle Mariners was also part of the hall of fame class of 2016. Mike Piazza has previously been recognized by Phoenixville. He was inducted into the Phoenixville Area School District Sports Hall of Fame in 2012.
“My love affair with baseball started in a small steel town, about a four-hour drive south of here named Phoenixville,” Piazza said, according to the Mercury. Piazza went on to describe Phoenixville as a tough town, blue collar. "They loved God, their families, and sports," he said.
