No Tax Increase for Phoenixville School District Budget

The school board approved the $85 million budget with zero tax increases for the first time in almost 20 years.

After some finagling with the district’s expenses, and a little help from the reserve fund, the Phoenixville Area School District’s business manager presented a 2015-2016 operational budget that included zero tax increases, a first for the district in almost 20 years, according to the Pottstown Mercury.

According to the report, the school board unanimously approved the $85.1 million budget for the 2015-2016 school year during its regular meeting last week. The preliminary budget in February offered $86.1 million in expenses with a 3.7 percent tax increase.

Finance director Chris Gehris made some adjustments to the budget, including personnel changes and bond refinancing, before presenting the finalized version last Thursday. The tax millage rate will remain 28.89, meaning the average Phoenixville school district homeowner will pay approximately $3,858 a year in property taxes.
