PHOENIXVILLE, PA — A Phoenixville man and Philadelphia police officer was arrested after he assaulted a person in custody and then lied about it to cover it up, the District Attorney's Office announced

Sergeant Jason Reid, 42, faces numerous charges in connection with the incident, which took place back on June 8.

Details of what led to the arrest remain unclear. However, authorities said that Reid lied about the circumstances of the assault, and then filed inaccurate paperwork in an attempt to cover up the incident.

The District Attorney's Office referred to the arrested individual as an "innocent member of our community," implying that the arrest of that person had no merit.

“It is disheartening any time an officer entrusted with enormous power over the public’s liberty and lives misuses that power," Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner said in a statement. "(These actions) undermine trust in law enforcement and make us all less safe. I am grateful to the Internal Affairs Unit of the Philadelphia Police Department for honoring their oath by holding one of their own accountable. No one is above the law."
