Discover the science behind science fiction as we host a celebration of all things Sci‑Fi! This year marks the 50th anniversary of the creation of Star Trek. Join us in the Science Stage as we show the motion picture Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. Snap a selfie with a Stormtrooper from Garrison Carida, a chapter of the 501st Legion or a member of the Rebel Legion. Mingle with members of the Steel City Ghostbusters and take a picture in front of the Pittsburgh Ecto-1, a replica of the ghost busting hearse, or the Steel City Time Machine. Discover the origins of Science Fiction starting with Mary Shelely's Frankenstein in our Works Theater show, Frankenscience. The show features our large Tesla coil, a one-million volt display of light and sound. Explore futuristic technology such as 3D printing – technology that would have been considered science fiction a few decades ago. Make your own ectoplasm slime to take home. For a few dollars more watch Special Effects on the biggest screen in Pittsburgh at Rangos Omnimax Theater. This throwback show from 1996 explores special effects techniques used in motion pictures, including traditional special effects up to modern computer generated effects. This film includes re-creation of several of the most breathtaking shots from the original Star Wars film in IMAX by Industrial Light & Magic and backstage looks at the making of Lucasfilm's epic Star Wars Trilogy Special Edition.
