Richland Police Will Visit High Schools, Remind Teen Drivers To Wear Seatbelts

Police will also pull over teen drivers who are not wearing their seat belts. The statewide initiative is backed by PennDOT.

Police are visiting local high schools this week to remind of basic safety while driving. More than 100 police departments around the state are participating in the initiative this week.

According to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), there have been over 123,000 crashes in the state in 2013 with over 1200 of those being fatal. In 415 of those crashes, the drivers weren’t wearing their seat belts and 270 of them were.

Richland Township police department wants to remind teens to wear their seatbelts. Officers in Richland, as well as those across the state, will be pulling teens over if they are not wearing a seat belt and the violation could result in a fine.

Law enforcement will head to 120 high schools, reaching thousands of students statewide. Officers will also be holding presentations and handing out information at the schools. Richland police have been sitting in the parking lot of the high school and pulling teens over and they said a majority of the students are wearing seat belts.
