4-Foot Python Found In Nearby Berks County

Not every curious pet that wanders off is of the furry variety.

DOUGLASVILLE, PA — Not every curious pet that wanders off is of the furry variety.

A four-foot long python was found in Douglassville late last week, and local animal shelters are working to try to find the snake's owner.

Pythons are, of course, not native to Pennsylvania, but there are no laws against owning non-native reptiles or amphibians in the state, according to the Fish and Boat Commission.

What is illegal is releasing non-native reptiles or amphibians into the wild in the state. It's bad for the snake, other wildlife, and probably people, who aren't really used to four foot long pythons.

The snake has since been transported to the Venom Institute for Education and Conservation in Leesport (Berks County). If you know this snake or have any information, please call them at (770) 231-8795.
