Four Local Students, Five Others Obtain Radiology Certification

For the fifth consecutive year, 100 percent of Montgomery County Community College’s Radiography graduates passed the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) National Certifying Examination.

A total of nine students graduated in May from the College’s Radiography program: Alison Bergey, Norristown; Mike Fetter, Lansdale; Diana Malloy, Souderton; John McKillip, Gilbertsville; Kristin Ploshay, Pottstown; Dana Rubright, Bechtelsville; Michael Schankel, Trappe; Sarah Sharkey, Harleysville; and Bethany Tornetta, Pottstown.

Of note, the program’s graduates have a nine-year pass rate of more than 97 percent, which far exceeds the 75 percent benchmark established by the Joint Review Committee on Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), the accrediting agency for the program. Since the program’s inception at MCCC, a total of 102 students graduated and went on to become ARRT registered radiographers.

The comprehensive ARRT exam covers the entire two-year Radiography curriculum. It is comprised of five sections, including radiation protection; equipment operation and quality control; radiographic procedures, patient care and education; and image production and evaluation.

Students are eligible to take the examination following graduation. Upon passing, the students become Registered Technologists, which enables them to work anywhere in the United States and Puerto Rico.
