Marijuana Smell Leads to Drug Arrest, Police Say

Two women were charged with misdemeanor offenses.

A report of the smell of marijuana led Pottstown police officers to arrest two Pottstown residents and charge them with misdemanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

Police arrested Edith Pineda, 19, and Rebecca Bersaglia, 18, in an Apple Street apartment on April 12.

When police arrived, Pineda, Bersaglia and three males were in the apartment.

Police found a glass pipe with charred residue, a cigar wrapper, a straw used as a pipe, and an empty baggie when they searched the apartment. Pineda would not admit to owning any of the items but did not claim they belonged to anyone else and agreed to take responsibility for them, police said.

The five occupants of the apartment consented to being searched. The males were released after nothing was found.

A subsequent search of Bersaglia's person and belongings turned up a green-colored grinder and two containers, all with marijuana residue on them.

Pineda and Bersaglia were cited and summons were issued. They are free pending a preliminary hearing on May 30.
