Numerous Water Rescues In Montco As Heavy Flooding Hits Roadways

More than a dozen water rescues were underway Thursday night as heavy rains and flooding hit numerous Montgomery County roadways.

More than a dozen water rescues were underway Thursday night as heavy rains and flooding hit numerous Montgomery County roadways.

The western part of the county was hard hit first, with severe storms and flooding coming around 6 p.m. Stretches of Route 422 in the Pottstown and Lower Pottsgrove area were fully underwater, with cars either floating or submerged.

A flash flood warning was issued for the eastern part of Montgomery County through 10:15 p.m.

More than a dozen water rescues had been responded to by local authorities by 6 p.m.

A total of 14 water rescues remained underway as of 7:05 p.m., in the following areas:

  • Orangeman's Road and Exton Road, Upper Moreland
  • College Drive, Pottstown
  • N. Bethlehem Pike, Lower Gwynedd
  • New Road, New Hanover
  • Porter Road and E. High Street, Lower Pottsgrove
  • High Street and Manatawny Street, Pottstown
  • Washington and West 3rd streets, Pennsburg
  • Henning Road, New Hanover
  • Quakertown Ave and Otts Road, Upper Hanover
  • Swamp Creek and Schlegel roads, Douglass
  • W. High Street, Pottstown
  • Ludwig Road, New Hanover
  • Hoffmansville Road and Green Hill Road, Douglass
  • Kutztown Road, Upper Hanover

Pump details had been requested for several more municipalities.

Rains are expected to slow, but the threat of flooding is expected to continue through the night, according to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety.

Authorities remind drivers to always turn around if they see standing water in the road.

In the Lower Pottsgrove area, authorities urged motorists to stay off the roads if at all possible, with numerous trees down. Road closures in that area included:

  • N. Adams Street near Lynn Drive
  • Porter Road at Sanatoga Station Road

No word yet on any injuries.
