Police Say Parolee Had 932 Bags of Heroin in Apartment

The Pottstown man faces several drug and weapons-related charges.

A Pottstown man who was paroled from prison in October 2012 was arrested again after a search of his apartment reportedly turned up 932 bags of heroin, an amount of marijuana, and a handgun.

22-year-old Dashawn Smith was charged with a felony charge of manufacture, delivery or possession with intent to deliver an illegal substance; felony possession of a firearm; misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance; and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.

According to a report in the Pottstown Mercury, Smith's apartment was searched by parole officers on June 19. Along with the bags of heroin, police said they found a gun under Smith's mattress. Pennsylvania law states that parolees are not permitted to possess firearms.

Court records show that Smith pleaded guilty to drug-related charges in 2011 and was sentenced to two to four years in jail.

Smith was remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail.
