Pottstown Cancels Fireworks Celebration

Bad news for Pottstown area residents.

Pottstown, PA --  Bad news for Pottstown area residents.

The fireworks and 4th of July celebration will not be taking place in 2016. 

Officials said that they were unable to come up with enough money for the project and did not want to cause taxpayers to pay for it.

Independence Day Ltd, who organized the event, had previously been seeking donations.

They said that the 2016 parade has a $5,000 budget for paid entertainment, insurance and miscellaneous expenses. Then, fees and costs of $8,700 imposed are by the Borough of Pottstown. The total cost came out to be $13,700.

Meanwhile, the festivities at the park had a $26,000 budget: $20,000 for fireworks, $6,000 for entertainment. 

The borough alleges that Independence Day Ltd. already owed money which they did not pay for last year's celebrations.

In a press release, Pottstown said that the organization owed the borough $7,000 for police support provided during the 2015 parade.

Fundraising efforts for the celebration reportedly fell very flat,according to the Pottstown Mercury.
