Pottstown Mayor's Halloween Poll: What Day To Trick Or Treat?

With a storm in the forecast for Thursday, Pottstown's mayor has launched an online poll asking which day residents want to trick or treat.

POTTSTOWN, PA — With a storm in the forecast for Halloween Thursday, Pottstown's mayor has launched an online poll asking which day residents want to trick or treat.

The poll has two options: keep it on Halloween on Thursday, or move it to Friday or Saturday.

As of 4 p.m. Tuesday, the poll favored keeping it on Thursday, with 56 percent of residents backing that option, and 44 percent supporting Friday or Saturday.

The weather has clouded an already murky situation. Some municipalities have no formal Halloween rules, and simply encourage residents to exercise caution. Some enforce curfews on Halloween, and some go as far as to declare trick or treating or Halloween activities take place on a day other than Oct. 31.

Also increasingly popular are "trunk or treats," where area businesses and organizations gather in a large parking lot or similar area and disperse candy to children from their trunks.

Some nearby municipalities, like Exeter, have already switched their trick or treating to Wednesday.
