Manhunt Continues For Alleged Killer

On February 2, 2012, Pottstown Police responded to Schmidt’s residence at 424 Cherry Street in Pottstown.Â
Upon arrival, officers found Schmidt dead at the bottom of the basement stairs.Â

Her children, ages 7 and 12, were found unharmed in second floor bedrooms. Â
The Pottstown Police Dept. and the Montgomery County Detective Bureau initiated a joint homicide investigation.Â
On February 2, detectives interviewed Nicole Carrero, ex-wife of Edwin Carrero, age 32.Â
Nicole Carrero said Edwin Carrero has been in a relationship with Schmidt and living at 424 Cherry Street.Â
Nicole Carrero said Edwin Carrero called her at 6:35 a.m. February 2 and said he may have killed Schmidt.Â
Edwin Carrero told Nicole Carrero he choked Schmidt and pushed her down the steps of the basement. Â
On February 2, an autopsy was performed on Schmidt by the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.Â
The cause of death was broad ligature strangulation and manner of death was homicide.Â
