Red Cross Helps Victims Of Today's Fire

The American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter helped three adults displaced by a fire at 3rd Street in Pottstown on Monday.

The aid includes donations of clothes, shoes and hotel accommodations for three nights, until the families can return home or find alternate housing.

"The (Red Cross) volunteers who responded ... are very familiar with the Pottstown area," said Dave Schrader, communications director for the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania chapter.

The chapter typically follows up with victims for a year, although most folks, such as those displaced by Monday's fire, only require assistance for a couple days, he said.

Other services the Red Cross offers disaster victims include help to refill lost prescription medications, Schrader said. 

The Red Cross is funded solely by donations, said Schrader, who was at the Red Cross Cup -- a fund-raiser for the organization -- on Monday. 

"We always welcome donations and volunteers," he said.
