Retiring Koury A 'First-Class Ambassador' For ND

"I wanted to coach like him because my brother was my inspiration," Tony Koury said of Mike, who died in 1997 at age 60 after a battle with leukemia. "I never got the opportunity to coach and be like him. It just wasn't in the cards. But I wanted to be involved in athletics. I thought I'd take the athletic director job [at Notre Dame-Green Pond] as a one-year thing. It turned out to be 43."
