'Scenes Of The Schuylkill': Juried Art Show Comes To Pottstown

A total of 96 works of art depicting the beauty of the Schuylkill River area will be on display at the local gallery through Dec. 14.

POTTSTOWN, PA — A total of 96 works of art depicting the beauty of the Schuylkill River area will be on display at a local gallery through Dec. 14.

The 15th annual Scenes of the Schuylkill Art Show provides a platform for regional artists to showcase the majesty of the area in a variety of mediums and styles.

The juried exhibit is a joint production of the Schuylkill River Heritage Area in partnership with Montgomery County Community College, and can be seen at Montco's West Campus Gallery at 16 West High Street in Pottstown.

The works in the exhibit were carefully selected by juror Ross L. Mitchell, the former executive director the Violette de Mazia Foundation. The 96 displayed pieces were selected from a group of 135 submissions, organizers said.

Best in show was won by James Green, for his oil linen "Saw Mill" (featured above as the main photo).

Michael Adams' watercolor "Verdi" won second, while Jean Plough's acrylic on canvas, "View from Train," earned third.

Images will also be for sale at the gallery. Things open up to the public on Nov. 15 following a special reception on Nov. 14. Hours are 8 a.m. to 9:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday; 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturdays.
