Snow Squall Causes Major Pileup Near 422 Junction

Breaking: A snow squall, which reportedly moved into Montgomery County, caused a massive pileup out in Berks.

A snow squall caused a massive pileup near a junction with 422 out in Berks County on Wednesday afternoon, leaving several people hospitalized, accoridng to multiple reports.

The accident occurred on US 222 in Wyomissing, between US 422 west and PA 724, authorities said. It involved at least two dozen vehicles, if not more.

The nature of the injuries suffered by individuals involved in the crash is not yet clear. It was declared a "mass casualty incident" by first responders, which means that up to 25 people were hurt, NBC10 reports.

All lanes on 222 are closed in the area, the Pennsylvania Departent of Transportation said.

The Berks Weather Authority issued a warning about the squall at around 1 p.m., stating that "while some of you will only see a gusty snow shower, some parts of our area (SE PA) will still see a heavier squall, with a quick 1-2 (inches) likely."

The squall continued along the 422 area, moving into Lower Pottsgrove shortly therafter, per NBC.
