Statistical reports on Manayunk and Roxborough residents' international roots—such as birthplaces, ancestries and languages spoken at home—are among the vast array of data in the U.S. Census Bureau's 2011 American Community Survey.

The five-year survey, produced by sample interviews from 2007 through 2011, was released last week.

  • About 6 percent of Roxborough residents and 4 percent of Manayunk residents were born outside the United States. Citywide, about 12 percent of Philadelphia residents were born outside the United States.
  • Irish is the most common ancestry reported by residents in Philadelphia and both Roxborough (36 percent) and Manayunk (30 percent).
  • Of those born outside the United State living in Manayunk, people originally from Asia make up 40 percent of the population, with Latin America second with 30 percent. In Roxborough, people originally from Europe make up 43 percent of the population, with Asians second with 36 percent.
  • Nearly 60 percent of people not born in the United States (living in Manayunk) entered before the year 2000—76 percent from Roxborough.

  • MANAYUNK: 30% Irish, 23% German, 20% Italian, 12% Polish
