Local beer to honor the Pope- brewed from water blessed by a Manayunk priest- will debut next Friday at the Stadium Sportsbar and Restaurant

Manayunk Brewing Co. is one of the many local beverage concerns producing a special beer in honor of Pope Francis’ visit. Now, the brewary has announced plans for a release party.
The Papal Ale- also known as “Papal Pleasure”- will get its official unveiling Friday, Sept. 18, at the Stadium Sportsbar and Restaurant at the Holiday Inn near the sports complex in South Philadelphia.
Brewery staff will be on hand, and beers from the brewery will be served from the Sportsbar’s taps for the following two weeks.

Of the many Pope-themed brews debuting this fall, the Papal Ale is believed to be the only one that’s actually blessed. Father John Kelly from Manayunk’s own St. John the Baptist Church blessed the brewing water on Sept. 3.
