Manayunk Gets Ready For Hurricane

Last week, thanks to its geography, Manayunk was less affected by the impact of the Pope visit than many other areas of the city. Now, thanks to that same geography, Manayunk is preparing for the possible arrival of Hurricane Joaquin.

Situated along the Schuykill River, Manayunk has long born the brunt of hurricanes and other major storms. One establishment, Manayunk Brewing Company ,has plaques on its wall demonstrating the high-water mark of several past hurricanes.

NBC 10 interviewed several Manayunk business owners, who appeared to not be panicking, but still aware and prepared. They also noted that creeks in the area are lower than usual due to the relatively dry recent months.

Joaquin is expected to most affect the region by the later part of the weekend.
