Manayunk/Roxborough Pope Notes: City Unveils Visit Plan
What area residents need to know about the Pope's visit

Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter held a press conference Wednesday to lay out everything city residents need to know about Pope Francis’ visit to Philadelphia, which is now just over a week away.
Here’s what residents of Manayunk and Roxborough need to know about Pope Weekend:
- Good news: The U.S. Secret Service secure vehicle perimeter goes nowhere near Manayunk or Roxborough.

- However, I-76 will be closed eastbound between I-476 and I-95, and westbound between I-95 and Route 1, from Friday at 10 p.m. to Sunday morning.
- SEPTA’s Norristown/Manayunk Line will not go as far as Manayunk on Saturday and Sunday- only the Norristown Transit Center will be operational. Riders are encouraged to be “dropped off at or near one of the open outlying stations.”

- All Philadelphia public schools will be closed Thursday and Friday, with closures at Archdiocesan Schools beginning Wednesday.
“The neighborhoods in Center City Philadelphia will be most impacted by the World Meeting of Families – Philadelphia 2015 and the Papal Visit, but the entire city has the opportunity to participate in this historic event,” Mayor Nutter said in the press conference. “I am asking Philadelphians who are not already joyously anticipating the arrival of Pope Francis to get excited and get involved. This is an incredible moment for our City and the Nation.”
