Philly Man Found Slain Remembered For Animal Activism
Al Chernoff was a beloved member of Philadelphia's animal rescue and welfare community and will be greatly missed.
PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia's animal welfare and rescue community is mourning the loss of one of it's most prolific members after Al Chernoff's death.
Chernoff, 59, was found slain in his Rawnhurst home last Tuesday.
Now, the community is showing support for his family and the animals he dedicated so much time to.

A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to defer the costs of his funeral and provide to animal rescue support.
Chernoff left behind nine cats, three turtles, and two frogs, according to the Pennsylvania SPCA.

"As you know Al’s kids were his cats," the GoFundMe page reads. "Al was a huge part of the rescue community and we want to be sure his legacy continues on."
According to the GoFundMe, Chernoff was a veteran and an avid motorcycle rider.
"This is a big loss amongst the many communities Al touched."
So far, more than $10,000 has been generated by the campaign.

Philadelphia's animal rescue organizations paid tribute to Chernoff following the news of his death.
"Yesterday, we received the heartbreaking news that Philadelphia's animal welfare community lost one of its own with the passing of Al Chernoff," the SPCA said. "An animal advocate and volunteer, he was known to so many for his endless work, including us."
