Roxborough Dog Park To Reopen After September Incident

The park was to reopen in October after closing due to an 'incident,' but insurance issues stopped that. Officials say it will reopen soon.

ROXBOROUGH, PHILADELPHIA – The Roxborough Dog Park is planning to reopen soon after insurance issues halted the planned October 2017 reopening following the park's closure due to undisclosed incident in September 2017.

Park officials are hosting a meeting at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 30 in the St. Timothy's Episcopal Church at 5720 Ridge Ave. in Roxborough.

Officials said the meeting will cover the park's reopening.

On Facebook, officials with the park said the city requested to review and update the park's insurance policy, as well as revise the member application. In doing so, the October reopening was indefinitely postponed as a new, more suitable insurance plan was sought out by park officials.

A reopening was set for mid October last year after officials closed the park due to an incident that was not given much detail in September 2017.

In the wake of the incident, officials decided to make the park members only, offering various ways to pay for membership.

Those looking to become member can pay the $100 membership fee in full with a 10 percent discount and take on four hours of volunteering at the park; make quarterly payments of $25 and volunteer four hours at the park; and commit to 14 hours of volunteer time. The membership is good by the household, not by the pet or pet walker, according to officials.

Officials said members will be given a code for the lock to enter the park and giving the code to non members can lead to memberships being revoked.

How exactly to become a member is still unclear at this time, but light could be shed on that during Wednesday's meeting.
