At Roxborough School, a Shakespearean Actor Wanted

Cook-Wissahickon Elementary School teacher Jose Ramos has launched a crowdfunding campaign to hire an actor to teach "Othello"

A teacher at Cook-Wissahickon Elementary School in Roxborough is teaching his students Shakespeare’s Othello and wants to find a Shakespearean actor to help him. So naturally, he’s launched a crowdfunding campaign.

Jose Ramos, who teaches drama to students in grades 6-8, has launched a campaign on Donorschoose.org to find such an actor. The campaign is called “Shakespeare in the City.” He is looking for the actor to spend a week with the students and help teach them how to read Shakespeare.

“My students need a Shakespearean actor to visit our classroom and work with students to be able to act out scenes from Othello,” the campaign says. “Our students come from homes with caring and involved parents. Our students strive to do well in everything they do. Many of our students go on to top high schools in the City of Philadelphia. Exposing them to Shakespeare and the arts is an important part of their greater success.”
