Roxborough Services to Honor Veterans on Memorial Day

Several memorial services will be held throughout the Roxborough/Manayunk area Monday.

Veterans groups in the Roxborough/Manayunk area have scheduled plenty of opportunities for local residents to honor the sacrifices of American soldiers on Memorial Day.

According to a schedule posted by Montgomery Media News and provided by the 21st Ward Veterans Association, the day starts at 10 a.m. with the laying of wreath and rifle salute at the Wissahickon Memorial on Rochelle Avenue, organized by the Henry Houston American Legion Post 3.

The day continues with an 11 a.m. service by the Hattal-Taylor VFW Post 333 at its Korean-Vietnam Memorial on Pechin Street and Lycecum Avenue. At noon, a wreath laying ceremony at Leverington Cemetery will feature a rifle salute by the Dutch Helwig Marine Corps League.

The Henry Houston American Legion Post 3 will lead another wreath-laying service and rifle salute at Gorgas Park on Ridge Avenue at 1 p.m., followed by another rifle salute at the legion’s headquarters at 6600 Ridge Avenue at 2 p.m., closing out the day’s services.
