Collision in Salisbury Kills Three, Injures Two

Two of the deceased were Honey Brook firefighters. Reportedly the "deadliest accident" in Somerset County since 2010.

Two Honey Brook firefighters died in a collision with a tractor trailer last Friday. A third firefighter was injured in the crash.

Jake Long, 19, was driving his pickup truck through Salisbury with Beneul Stolzfus, 21, as a passenger. Both Long and Stolzfus died in the collision, as did Downington resident Marcus Ruff, 26, who was also riding in the truck.

Jake Zook, 23, was the last passenger. He sustained non-life threatening injuries. He was released from Lancaster General Hospital on Saturday. Zook is also a Honey Brook firefighter.

The tractor-trailer driver, Roberto Jones Chambers of Philadelphia, sustained minor injuries.

Police say the tractor-trailer was driving west on Route 340 when the pickup truck turned south onto the roadway from Churchtown Road. Chambers reportedly turned to the left but still collided with the driver’s side of the pickup truck.

Both of the trucks slammed into an embankment and stopped on Old Philadelphia Pike. A fire erupted instantly inside the collided vehicles.

The crash was the county’s “deadliest accident since 2010,” according to Lancaster Online.
