Quaker Valley School District: School-Level Spelling Bee 2021 Results

Students in 4th through 8th grade competed in the Scripps National Spelling Bee virtual events.

Quaker Valley Middle SchoolSeventh-grader Dominic Pogue is Quaker Valley Middle School's Spelling Bee Champion. Dominic won the Spelling Bee tie-break competition after competing in 30 rounds against the second-place winner, Kieran Cain. Both boys proved themselves to be excellent spellers. Congratulations to Dominic who will represent QVMS at the regional competition in March.

Osborne Elementary SchoolFifth-grader Connor Sheridan is Osborne Elementary’s Spelling Bee Champion! Eighteen fourth and fifth-grade students qualified from a classroom competition to compete in the virtual event. Connor won in the 17th round by correctly spelling the word divulge. Fifth-grader Elena Cindrich came in second place, and fifth-grader Rachel Abbott finished in third.

Edgeworth Elementary SchoolFifth-grader, Vito Pogue, emerged as Edgeworth Elementary’s Spelling Bee Champion. Seventeen fourth and fifth-grade students, who had qualified from a classroom competition, competed in the virtual event. Vito won in the 15th round by correctly spelling the word convulsive. Fifth-grader Keira Watson came in second place, and fourth-grader Yousab Ghobrial finished in third.

School-level champions, Dominic, Connor, and Vito, will advance to the next round of the virtual Western PA Spelling Bee, sponsored by the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The champion of the Western PA Spelling Bee will win an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in May 2021.

Scripps National Spelling Bee is the nation's largest and longest-running educational promotion, administered on a not-for-profit basis by The E.W. Scripps Company and local spelling bee sponsors. The program’s purpose is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts, and develop correct English usage that will help them throughout their lives.
