3 Minutes on a Park Bench with Seth Friedman of Costco

We spoke to Seth Friedman about how he first got started at Costco and he told us brands that will be featured at the Lower Macungie store.

Patch partner Seth Friedman of Costco in Lower Macungie told us why Costco decided to come to town.

Patch: How did you first get started working with Costco?

Seth Friedman: I started with Costco in September of 1989 as a part-time cart pusher while going to college, I quickly advanced to supervisor, then tire center manager and from there I have held numerous management positions in multiple buildings throughout New York with my last being the assistant general manager of our Brooklyn, NY location.

Patch: I actually lived in Allentown for a few years. It's such a great city. What made you want to bring Costco to the area?

Seth Friedman: The area has been asking for a Costco for years. When this location in Lower Macungie became available, it was a perfect fit. We are excited to be part of Lower Macungie Township and the Lehigh Valley community.

Patch: How will the new location be involved in the community?

Seth Friedman: Every year in May, our members help us raise funds for the local children's hospital; our employees' United Way campaign just ended with great success; we donate backpacks stuffed with school supplies annually to kids in the area and we also have a monthly budget for community events.

Patch: What are some of the notable products or brands that will be featured in the Allentown store?

Seth Friedman: Our buyers did a fantastic job sourcing the latest and best brand name labels like Spyder and Patagonia jackets, UGG and Sorel boots and Under Armour outerwear in apparel. In handbags, we have Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Michael Kors, Prada and many others.

Patch: How does Costco stand out from the competition?

Seth Friedman: Costco members renew because they appreciate the way we treat them as well as selling quality products at the lowest price possible. We are the original warehouse club and grow every year, mostly from members' word of mouth.

Patch: What would you tell a reader who has thought about shopping at Costco, but usually shops at his or her local small business retail stores?

Seth Friedman: Come check us out. We will never replace the great businesses in the Allentown area, and together we can serve everyone. Many small businesses thrive from a Costco being added to their town, for example some local restaurants will sell their gift cards at our location, giving them greater exposure.

Patch: How can readers contact you or find out more about Costco?

Seth Friedman: We have a great website and if you scroll down to the bottom of the homepage there is a wealth of information about our company, our history, charitable giving and much more.
