Missing Allentown Teen Found In Mexico With 45-Year-Old: Reports

U.S. and Mexican officials found Kevin Esterly and 16-year-old Amy Yu in Playa del Carmen on Saturday, multiple media outlets reported.

ALLENTOWN, PA — A 16-year-old Allentown girl who disappeared more than a week ago was reportedly found in a resort town in Mexico with a married 45-year-old man, who now faces a felony charge of interference of the custody of a child. U.S. and Mexican authorities found Kevin Esterly and teen Amy Yu in Playa del Carmen on Saturday, multiple media outlets reported.

Esterly was arrested. The girl was found unharmed. She has been returned to her family, the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials told CNN.

Authorities were previously notified of Esterly's relationship with Yu, who often signed her out of school without her parents' consent, the newspaper said. He also rented an apartment just blocks away from her school.

The pair went missing on March 5 and police issued a missing person alert and filed a warrant for Esterly's arrest.

Authorities believe the teen willingly went with Esterly.

Mui Luu, the teen's mother, told media outlets that Esterly had known the family through church and had known her daughter since the girl was 11 years old.

Lehigh Valley Academy Charter School, which Amy had attended, told CNN Esterly last visited the school on Feb. 9 and that Amy named him as her stepfather on her emergency contact form, WFMZ-TV reported. He was later banned from school property.
