Parkland Library Will Keep Walbert Ave. Location

The Parkland Community Library Board of Directors has pledged to retain the Walbert Avenue location as a branch and put a conveniently located drop box somewhere in North Whitehall Township.

The board also pledged to begin construction on a new library on Grange Road in Upper Macungie Township by the spring if the voters approve a funding referendum at the ballot box on Nov. 5.

The board supported those three resolutions at its last meeting on Thursday in response to public feedback on the new library project, according to a board news release.

“On November 5, the residents of Parkland School District will weigh in on the value of a new library in this growing region,” noted Debbie Jack, PCL Executive Director. “This is an exciting time for our residents who know that public libraries provide an important service to the community.”

Voters will weigh in on the following question on Nov. 5:

Shall the current library tax be increased to 0.2978 mills ($29.78 per $100,000 of assessed property value) until July 1, 2035 or whenever the Parkland Community Library pays off a loan to construct a new building and to operate the library, whichever occurs first, when the millage will decrease to 0.1895 mills ($18.95 per $100,000 of assessed property value)?

Other board business highlights included the adoption of the audited financial statements from the 2012-2013 fiscal year. These documents are posted and can be viewed in About Us at www.parklandlibrary.org.
