Service Electric President John Walson Jr. Dies

John Walson Jr., 63, of South Whitehall died Sunday surrounded by family, according to reports.

Service Electric President John Walson Jr., 63, of South Whitehall has died.

Walson, the son of founder and cable service pioneer John Walson Sr., died after a battle with cancer, according to reports on WFMZ and lehighvalleylive.com.  

Walson had been involved in the cable television industry for more than 38 years. He moved up through the ranks, as technician and chief engineer, before becoming company president. A philanthropist, he was involved in many non-profit organizations.

Andy Himmelwright, general manager of Service Electric Cable TV-2, told lehighvalleylive.com that Walson's illness was sudden and shook the company. “It’s like a big bomb went off here, no one was expecting it,” he was quoted as saying. “John really cared about his employees.”
