Delco First Responder Dies From Coronavirus
William Blackman, a firefighter and EMT with the Swarthmore Fire & Protective Association, died from complications related to the virus.
SWARTHMORE, PA — A longtime member of a Delaware County emergency response group passed away due to complications from the coronavirus.
According to Swarthmore Fire & Protective Association, William “Brad” Blackman, 56, died from the virus recently.
The association said Blackman likely contracted the virus from his work as a paramedic.

HE joined the association in February 1983 and has served as Lieutenant, Assistant Engineer, House Chairman, Ambulance Lieutenant, and ultimately Ambulance Captain, the association said.
"Passionate about fire and emergency medical services, Brad was instrumental in the fire company’s initial purchase of an ambulance and development of its emergency medical services program," the association said on Facebook. "Brad's commitment to EMS never wavered and as an avid cyclist Brad rode in The National EMS Memorial Bike Ride every year since beginning in 2010. Our membership mourns the loss of a great friend and selfless volunteer."
