Delco Hosting Household Hazardous Waste Collection Saturday
The first of four county-sponsored household hazardous waste collection events will be held Saturday in Sharon Hill. See event details here.

SHARON HILL, PA – The Delaware County Solid Waste Authority is holding the first of four household hazardous waste collection events this weekend, so get your items ready for some spring cleaning.
The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 5 at the Emergency Services Training Center, at 1700 Calcon Hook Road in Sharon Hill.
Residents can use the service for free; businesses however will be turned away.

Accepted items at the collection events include:
- Oil-based paints
- sealers
- thinners
- turpentine
- lawn and pool chemicals
- 3 lb. (camp size) propane cylinders (20 lb. gas grill sized tanks can be taken to Hope Depot, Lowes or any propane supplier)
- varnish
- weed killers
- fungicides
- pesticides
- items containing Mercury
- any items whose label contains the words "danger," "toxic," or "hazardous."

Items not accepted include:
- Electronic items (TVs, computers, etc.)
- latex paint (see here for details on disposing latex paint)
- smoke detectors
- barbecue-sized propane tanks.
Residents who have electronic or E-Waste to dispose of should contact their municipality to see if they are hosting an e-waste event, permanent drop-off, or curbside collection, the county said.
"The four events offer an easy and convenient opportunity to dispose of hazardous items in a responsible manner," County Council Chairman John P. McBlain said.
McBlain pointed out that county residents can take acceptable products to sites in the five-county area (Chester, Bucks, Montgomery Counties and the City of Philadelphia) as part of a coordinated Southeastern Regional Household Hazardous Waste Education, Collection and Management Program.

All Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events are held 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., rain or shine at the below locations:
- Saturday, June 9; Rose Tree Park, 1671 N. Providence Road, Media
- Sunday, Sept. 16; Penn State – Brandywine Campus, Route #352, Media
- Saturday, October 6; Upper Chichester Municipal Bldg., 8500 Furey Road, Upper Chichester
