Group Rallying Against Assault Weapons In Delco Friday Night
A Delaware County group is hosting a rally to call for an assault weapon ban outside the the county court house Friday night.

A pro gun control group is holding a rally to call for an assault weapon ban Friday night in Delaware County following the school shooting in Broward, County Florida that killed 17 people Wednesday.
Delaware County United for Sensible Gun Policy is hosting the rally from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 outside the Delaware County Courthouse, 201 W. Front Street in Media.
The shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland killed 17 people and injured at least 14 other people who were hospitalized late Wednesday night, according to a Patch report. The shooting happened after a fire alarm was pulled, prompting students and staff at the school to evacuate. The accused gunman is a former student at the school.

According to the group, the rally is a "gathering where you get to join the movement to ban assault weapons" and learn about the regional Demand the Ban Direct Action on March 21 at Sen. Pat Toomey’s office in Philadelphia.
Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said the gunman was armed with an AR-15 rifle with multiple magazines.

Friday's event is not a vigil and will be held rain or shine, organizers said.
