High School Marching Band 'Positive' for Springfield

Springfield High School Marching Band earned silver medal at statewide competition.

Although a young (competing) program, the Springfield High School Marching Band already sits atop of its field.

Last Tuesday, student leaders of the band attended the Board of Commissioners meeting meeting and received honors for their achievement. Commissioner Daniel Lanciano (7th Ward) proclaimed a citizen commendation on the Springfield High School Marching Band for finishing second place in the statewide band competition.

"I believe our schools do a very good job with our children, with the academics, the arts, and athletics..." Lanciano said. "Congratulations to the marching band for your outstanding achievement, and for being a positive representatives of Springfield Township."

Allie Brown, a junior drum major, thanks the commissioners and their teachers for their support.

"We get our music in the summer, and we're out there all day... Over time, we pull ourselves together and were able to put on a really awesome show," she said.

Springfield High School Principal Frank McKnight beamed at the Dec. 11 commissioners' meeting, saying how proud he was for the entire township to recognize the students' achievement.

"We have some very talented students at Springfield High School—academically, in music and arts and athletics. I want them to know how proud I am of them," he said.

Although the band itself existed for many years, McKnight said Springfield began competing only recently.

"Our folks were pretty successful, pretty quickly. That's really a credit to Mr. Scott Blanford and all of his students," he said.
