Dear Editor:
As a 60 years resident of Springfield and a "youthful senior citizen" I am writing to encourage my fellow citizens to support two candidates with strong Springfield connections on Election Day, November 7th.

The first candidate is Jennifer Lofland, who is running for re-election for the unpaid position of School Board Director in Region 2 Ward 1. Dr. Lofland is the only experienced candidate, but she is on the ballot as a Democrat having very narrowly lost the primary to a young guy who recently moved to our community. Here are my reasons for supporting Jennifer Lofland:
Experience: Jennifer is Board President and has served on the Springfield School Board for 5 years.

Strong Springfield Connections: Jennifer and her family have lived at 317 Lynbrooke Road in Springfield for 19 years. She and Sam have two children, a daughter at Springfield High School and a son at ETR middle school.
Selfish Reasons: I don't like paying taxes. Who does? But what I'd like even less is to see my property value go down! One day, this senior citizen may want to (or have to) sell his house. When that day comes I want my house and every house in Springfield to be highly desired by young adults looking to raise their raise their families in the Springfield I love. I know that strong schools will be a deciding factor, and right now my old school, SHS, is rated the #1 high school in Delco. And recently, Zillow sent me an email which indicated 19064 homes have returned to and even surpassed their pre-recession values.
Death and taxes may be certain, but the value of our homes is not!
The second candidate is David White, who is running for re-election to the Delaware County Council. Dave also has strong Springfield connections.
I knew Dave's parents and older brothers from St. Francis of Assisi Parish. My six siblings and many of Dave's siblings grew up together playing in Springfield's wonderful parks and learning in Springfield's schools.
My reasons for supporting Councilman White are much the same:
His obviously strong Springfield (and Delco) connections. His 30 years of experience as both a leader and a volunteer. And for these selfish reasons: Dave, like me, understands what it means to own a business. He cares about children with special needs and folks of all ages with addictions. And he helps keep the county libraries that I love strong.
I see it this way:
Strong schools = Strong Springfield.
Strong Springfield + Strong Delco = Higher Prices ... for the most valuable financial asset that most of us own, our homes.
