Media's Ted Harris is John The Baptist in "Godspell" at The Media Theatre
He's also a member of the theatre's State Street Miracles

The Media Theatre's "Godspell" is on stage through August 27. This new vision for the classic musical features children, teens, and adults. Local actor, performer, puppeteer, and artist Ted Harris plays the role of John The Baptist.
Ted is also a member of the theatre's State Street Miracles, a performance troupe of adults with developmental disabilities that formed a decade ago. The Miracles have received commendations from Delaware County Council, the PA State House of Representatives, and the US Congress and have performed throughout Delaware County and in Washington, DC.
Ted now takes everything he has learned as a member of The Miracles to his role as John The Baptist. "Godspell will appeal to people of all religions and backgrounds," Ted said. "Kids will love the colors and the humor, while adults will enjoy the surrealism of the musical."

Ted is 44 years old and resides in both Media and Swarthmore. He's been seen previously in The Media Theatre's production of "Fiddler On The Roof".
"Godspell is also about being a community," he explained. "This production is a bit different because it combines modern times with the '60's."

"Godspell" is written by Stephen Schwartz and John-Michael Tebelak, having opened off Broadway in 1971. It's a non-linear show with the focus being the parables from the Book of Matthew, and a couple from the Book of Luke. The parables are humorously showcased, while the songs are a bit more on the 'serious' side as the show progresses.
It contains a well known score including the hit song "Day By Day", but Ted's favorite is the solo Jesus sings "Alas For You". Why? "Well it's like Jesus telling people to get their act together," he stated.
Ted Harris certainly has his 'act' together in "Godspell" now through August 27 at The Media Theatre. Austy Hicks, of Wayne, plays Jesus, with an ensemble of youth representing the Disciples and followers of Jesus. For tickets, call 610-891-0100 or visit mediatheatre.org. All seats are just $20. "Godspell" performs on Fridays at 7pm, Saturdays at 2pm and 7pm, and Sundays at 3pm.
